S. Shortly, 70, Former County Recorder, Dies
New Hampton — Funeral services for Samuel Shortly, 70, were to be held Tuesday morning at St. Joseph’s church with the Rev. J. J. Leen, pastor, officiating. Mr. Shortley died Saturday after a long illness.
Mr. Shortley was born on May 28, 1873, in New Hampton, the son of Robert and Eliza Twamley Shortley. He married Agnes Mary Wentz. Mr. Shortley served 2 terms as Chickasaw county recorder. After that he farmed for a number of years, retiring last year. Besides his widow, a daughter and 2 sons survive.
