Mrs. Bonnie Florine Jelinek
Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Gordon Jelinek, 42, of Bellevue, Neb., who died there suddenly Wednesday evening.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by five sisters, Dr. Charlotte Florine of Honolulu, Hawaii, Mrs. A. A. (Lucile) Lorenzen of Scottsdale, Ariz., Mrs. Herman (Gladys) Flint of Minneapolis, Mrs. Robert (Della) Moss, Plant City, Fla., and Mrs. Dan (Patsy) Pokorny, Beltsville, Md.; and two brothers, Robert Florine of Sutherland and Lt. Col. Thomas Florine of Libertyville, Ill.

Funeral services were on Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in South Omaha followed by burial at the Bellevue Cemetery. (Source: The Cherokee Courier, Cherokee, IA, Thurs., Jan. 30, 1969, pg. 2)

“BONNIE” FLORINE JELINEK
Bonita Eloise Florine Jelinek, sixth child of Knut A. and Anne Christine Norgaard Florine was born in Cherokee, Ia., Dec. 23, 1926 and died following a few hours illness on Jan. 22, 1969 at Clarkson Hospital, Omaha, at the age of 42.

Bonnie, as she was known by family and friends, attended Lincoln School here, also Larrabee Consolidated School when her family moved to a farm in Spring Township and in 1942 returned to Wilson High School here where she graduated in 1944.

From 1944-45 she was a student at Buena Vista College, then entered nurses training at Sioux City Methodist Hospital where in 1948 she became a registered nurse.

From 1950-55, she was general staff nurse at University of Nebraska Hospital, Omaha, then for a year she was an obstetrical nurse in Corpus Christi, Tex., returning in 1956 to University Hospital, Omaha, to become assistant supervisor of surgery and teach of student nurses. In off duty hours she completed a BA degree by 1958.

Upon encouragement from hospital medical staff there, she took anesthesia training at Emmanuel Hospital, Omaha, then joined Clarkson Hospital staff for practical anesthesia experience under tutelage of Dr. Robert Therein, head anesthetist of the hospital, and completed training two years, remaining on Clarkson anesthesia staff.

Active in nursing and anesthesia professional organizations, she also was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Bellevue, Neb., and of its Gateways Young Adult Group where she met Gordon Jelinek of Bellevue whom she married June 18, 1967. They made their home at Hanson's Lake, Bellevue.

In addition to her husband Gordon of Bellevue, she is survived by her father, K. A. Florine of rural Cherokee; five sisters, Dr. Charlotte Florine of Honolulu, Hawaii, Mrs. A. A. (Lucile) Lorenzen, Scottsdale, Ariz., Mrs. Herman (Gladys) Flint, Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Robert (Della) Moss, Plant City, Fla., and Mrs. Dan (Patsy) Pokorny, Beltsville, Md.; two brothers, Robert Florine of Sutherland and Lt. Col. Thomas Florine of Libertyville, Ill.; also 18 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Richard in 1939, by her mother in 1948 and by another brother, John in 1959.

Funeral services were held Jan. 25 at First Presbyterian Church in Bellevue. Burial was in Bellevue, Neb. Cemetery.
