Aurelia Man, 78, Is Reported in Serious Condition
Luell Watts, 78, aged Aurelia man, was “very low” at 11 o’clock Monday morning, attaches at the Bates hospital there reported. Watts was struck and injured by a car reported by Sheriff A. N. Tilton to have been driven by Orville McDonald of Aurelia late Friday night.

Watts received a fractured right leg and arm and internal injuries. He was struck as he walked on a crossing on an Aurelia side street about 9 p.m. Friday.

Luell Watts Dies at Home in Aurelia Tuesday
Luell Watts, 78, who was run down by an automobile at Aurelia last Friday night, died at 7:10 o’clock Tuesday night in Bates hospital at Aurelia.

Dr. J. E. Bunker, Cherokee county coroner said he did not know at this time whether an inquest would be held but said he didn’t think one would be necessary.

Services will be announced later. Note by transcriber: Funeral services were held at the Wharton Funeral Home, Aurelia on August 25, 1939. Burial was in the Aurelia Cemetery

Watts, a retired railroad man, was fatally injured about 9 o’clock last Friday night when struck by a car which Sheriff A. N. Tilton said was driven by Orville McDonald.

He was crossing an Aurelia side street and was hit as the car came around the corner.

McDonald and his companion, Loyal Whiting, stopped the vehicle at once and picked up the injured man. Dr. E. G. Bates was called and took Watts to the hospital in his ambulance.

Watts was born January 14, 1861 in Delaware county, Iowa. Mrs. Watts died about 21 years ago. Surviving are four children, David, Las Vegas, N. M.; Mrs. Elma Custus, Wall, S. D.; Mrs. Nila Koontz, Simms, Mont., and Edwin, at home.

All the children were with Watts when he died.
