Louis Fuhrman – Cherokee Resident
Louis Fuhrman, 77, died Sunday at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. He had been a resident of Cherokee Villa for one year.

He was born May 22, 1905, near Cleghorn to Mr. and Mrs. Albert Fuhrman. On Oct 31, he married Emma Srock. She preceded him in death in 1943. He later was married to Mildred Crippen. On Aug. 26, 1959, he married Barbara Wright in Des Moines. She preceded him in death in 1982. He had farmed in the Cherokee and Cleghorn area for many years before moving to Des Moines to work as a carpenter. He returned to Cherokee in 1980.

Survivors include two sons, Paul, Cherokee; and Dale, Des Moines; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Sharon) Conley, Cherokee; Mrs. James (Gayle) Dunn, Kansas City, Kansas; two adopted sons, Richard, Cherokee and Guy, Cedar Rapids; one adopted daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Probasco, Woodbine; four step-daughters, Mrs. Dean (Barbara Jean) Bragg, of Norwalk; Mrs. William (Evelyn) McClure and Mrs. Dale (Lyla) Carnes, Ankeny, and Mrs. Harold (Frances) Benway of Chariton.

Also 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, two brothers, Al and Carl of Cherokee; and a sister Mrs. Marie Tippy of Cherokee.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Pastor Lowell Koch will officiate. A family prayer service will be held at 1:45 p.m. Additional services will be held at 1 p.m. Additional services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Lincoln Heights Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Pastor Dean Gunn will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Des Moines. The Greenwood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
