Mrs. Dorr, 96, Marcus Pioneer, Taken By Death
Came to Amherst in 1870 in Covered Wagon

Marcus – Mrs. Elizabeth Dorr, 96, pioneer resident of Marcus, died at 8:00 o’clock Friday morning, Feb 2, at her home in M arcus. She is survived by two sons, Dr. Philip P. Dorr of Fort Dodge, and Carl Dorr of Marcus. Five children preceded her in death. Mrs. Dorr, known in the Marcus community as “Grandma” Dorr, had been bedfast for the past eighteen months.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 o’clock Monday afternoon at the home and at 2:00 at Trinity Lutheran church in Amherst Township.

Mrs. Dorr, with her husband, John Dorr, sr., came to Amherst by covered wagon. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran church and of the Elizabeth society which was named for her.

The death of Mrs. Dorr was the second death in the family within a week. The funeral of Mrs. Carl Dorr was held last Monday afternoon at Trinity Lutheran church.
