Cecil A. Hammond, 77, Cherokee, died Feb. 22 in the Cherokee Villa following a lingering illness

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee The Rev. Ray Kruger will officiate. Burial will be in the Quimby Cemetery at Quimby. L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. will conduct military rites at the graveside. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday.

He was born Nov. 20, 1915, at Washta to William and Hazel Morgan Hammond. He was married to Veris Fogleman on July 7, 1935, at Cleghorn. He had been a longtime resident of the Cherokee area. He farmed most of his life. He was a Veteran of World War II serving in the U.S Army and was a member of L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Cecil Hammond Jr.; and one daughter Donna Faye Hammond.

He is survived by five sons and five daughters, Richard Hammond and family, Cherokee; Gordon Hammond and family, Cherokee; John Hammond and family, Ellsworth, Kan.; Steve Hammond and family, Simi Valley, Calif; George Hammond and family, Simi Valley, Calif.; Carol Beck and family, San Fernando, Calif.; Koreen Tharp and family, Cedar Rapids; Patty Brown and family, Las Vegas, Nev; Peggy Nagle and family, Cedar Rapids; Kim Powers and family, Las Vegas, Nev.; many grandchildren and greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Shirley Fogleman, Cherokee; Mrs. Zelda Pechota, Ormand Beach, Florida; also several half-brothers and half-sisters
