Former LeMars Girl Retired After 30 Yrs. With Telephone Co.

Cherokee Times: Mrs. Rose Pritts, long time Northwestern Bell Telephone company employee at Cherokee, retired June 1, 1944, it was announced by W. N. Lander, jr., manager. After more than 30 years of faithful service, Mrs. Pritts has announced her wish to take advantage of the company’s pension and benefit plan, Lander states, “We will miss her, but inasmuch as she will continue to reside in Cherokee, we hope to see her often.”

Mrs. Pritts’ telephone experience dates back to 1913 when she became a switchboard operator with the New State Telephone company, predecessor of the Northwestern Bell Telephone company in Cherokee. When the exchange became a Bell company in 1919, Mrs. Pritts continued with that company and in 1920 became its Chief Operator. A year later, she was appointed to her present clerical position in the office in which she served all departments of the business.

All of Mrs. Pritts’ telephone service has been in Cherokee and during her period of service she has seen many changes take place in the telephone business as it has grown to its present state of development.

(Mrs. Pritts will be remembered as, Rose Gunther of LeMars.)
