The MBA was a fraternal lodge originally formed in Tipton, Iowa in 1897. The primary purpose of the lodge was to provide life insurance benefits for its members. In 1915 Mason City successfully lobbied the lodge to relocate its headquarters. The large office building was completed in 1917 and former President William Howard Taft gave the dedicatory speech. The building still stands and is now known as the Brick & Tile Building, 103 E State St.
