Mason City - Phyllis Jean Mix, 69, of 1707 S. Delaware Ave., died Wednesday (Jan. 29, 2003) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Kathy Graves, coordinator of spiritual care at Hospice of North Iowa, officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p. m. today and until the time of services on Saturday at the funeral chapel.

Memorials may be given to the Phyllis Mix Memorial Fund.

Phyllis was born Dec. 2, 1933, in Mason City to Wallace Harry and Laura Jean (Blumenstiel) Rose. She attended school in Mason City, graduating from Mason City High School in 1951.

During high school, she worked for Stevenson's from September of 1950 to June of 1951. After graduation, she started working at the Cerro Gordo County Treasurer's Office, working there from June of 1951 to September of 1953. She then went to work for Garrison Building Store from September of 1953 to January of 1954.

Phyllis was united in marriage to Vernon Harold Mix on Sept. 4, 1952, at Sioux Falls, S. D.

From January of 1954 through November of 1967 she stayed at home to raise her children. Then she went to work at MBM in November of 1967, which became Metalcraft in January of 1986, where she was a production coordinator for calendars. She took early retirement in January of 1991.

Phyllis and Vern celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in September of 2002.

Phyllis enjoyed shopping at her "cheap" shops, cooking and making a home for her family. She was very creative and artistic. She was known for her sweet disposition and smile.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, Vern; two sons, Steven Mix of Isle, Minn., and David (Kate) Mix and their daughters, Madison and McKayla, of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Lori Stoltenberg and her children, Sommer and Brock, of Mason City, and Diana (Merle) Klipping and daughter, Chloe, of Mason City; one daughter-in-law, Mona Ott of Mason City and her children, Rhea Mix of St. Louis Park, Minn., and Ryan Mix of Waverly (children of Larry Mix) and Taylor Ott of Mason City; one brother, Tom (Pam) Rose of Mason City; two sisters, Betty Dahl, of Manly and Janice Rose of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Randy; her parents; and a son, Larry Mix, who died Jan. 29, 1983. Larry was the twin brother of Lori (Mix) Stoltenberg.
