NORA SPRINGS -- William 'Bill' Crum died peacefully holding the hands of his children at Hospice of North Iowa Muse Norris Inpatient Unit on November 23, 2017 in Mason City, Iowa at the age of 63.

Bill was born on September 18, 1954 in Mason City, Iowa to Dean and Marilyn Crum. He graduated from Nora Springs-Rock Falls High School in 1973. He married Sheila (Wentworth) Lawler, in 1978. To this union, two children were born. Bill began working for Basic Materials Aggregates in 1982. At the time of his death, he was the most senior employee at BMC having worked there for 35 years. His children remember him as a loving and supportive father who encouraged them in everything they did.

Bill was an avid outdoorsman who loved to swap stories (true or tall). He was a generous individual who loved mentoring youth on hunting and fishing. He was passionate about Iowa's youth hunting program and was very proud of all of his young hunting partners. He hated the cold and during the winter months, he would spend his free time inside making fishing lures which he shared with anyone that fished or wanted to learn to fish. His favorite fishing spot was on Big McDonald Lake in Dent, Minnesota where he vacationed with family much of his life. Bill had a wonderful sense of humor that lasted till the very end and a laugh that filled the room. Bill was a lifelong fan of the Hawkeyes, Twins, Vikings, and Old Milwaukee. Bill will also be remembered for never being without his camo hat and for his favorite past time, taking his daily deer ride around the country side and putting miles on his dusty silver Dodge pickup truck. It did not take long for farmers who lived along his regular route to note his absence.

Bill loved his grandchildren most of all. When his work took him out on the road, he would decline the hotel room and commute the two hours just so he could spend a half an hour with his girls.

Bill is survived by his children, Carrie (Tyler and their daughters Violet and Amelia) Poulter of Nora Springs; Brad Crum (special friend Anna and her children Jalen, Qyeison, Kymani and Kerric) of Nora Springs; siblings, Barb (John) Miller of Rockford, Bruce (Mindy) Crum of Nora Springs and Beth Petersen (special friend Scott) of Rockford; nephews, Michael Grady, Joel Crum, Jason Crum, Justin Crum; nieces, Angela Smith, Sherri Evans, Emily Petersen, Lindsey Petersen and their families; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents Dean and Marilyn (Deets) Crum, Special Uncle Dorlin Crum, and paternal and maternal grandparents.

A visitation is scheduled 5-7 Thursday, November 30th at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N Hawkeye Ave, Nora Springs. A funeral is scheduled for 1:30 Friday at the United Methodist Church, 202 N Hawkeye Ave, Nora Springs, followed by one last deer ride where we will meet at Park Cemetery in Nora Springs where his remains will be interred. There will be a reception to follow at the EK. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bill's life.

The family would like to thank the Radiation Oncology staff at Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa, Dr. Gedney and his nurse Anna from Palliative Care, and the staff at Hospice of North Iowa for their care of Bill and his whole family.
