Evelyn Christiansen was born November 25, 1923 in Drinkwater, Saskatchewan to parents Mathew and Zona (Chriswell) Miller. In 1928 Evelyn moved to Mason City and would go on to attend school in Nora Springs. Evelyn was united in marriage to Clarence Christiansen on September 26, 1944 in the First Christian Church in Mason City.

Those who knew Evelyn would best describe her as an amazing cook and for always having a willingness to help others. Whether it be baking sweets or canning vegetables from the garden, Evelyn was very passionate about making sure her family was taken care of and even enjoyed preparing this for the other families in the neighborhood.

In Evelyn’s later years volunteered at the Mercy Medical Center where she would deliver flowers and other items to patient’s rooms giving her an opportunity to serve others. Evelyn always looked forward to spending time with family and worked very hard to make sure everything around the house was clean and that everyone was taken care of. When Evelyn moved into the nursing home, one thing that she always looked forward to was getting to listen to the musicians who would come every week to play for the residents and going to church.

Evelyn is survived by her children: Gary Christiansen, Linda Defenbaugh, Julie Harms; sister: Shirley Stoltenberg; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grand children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and 8 siblings.
