MASON CITY -- Kenneth L. Carlson, 71, of 15 13th St. S. E., died Monday (Nov. 13, 2000) at his home.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Kathy Graves, Chaplain of Hospice of North Iowa officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association officiating.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home and until time of services on Thursday.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa.

Kenneth Carlson was born July 28, 1929, in Belmond, Iowa, to Thomas and Eileen (Baker) Carlson. The family moved to Manly where he attended and graduated from High School in 1948 with honors.

Right after school, Ken was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict where he remained until after the war.

On July 3, 1954, he was united in marriage with Agnes Marie Pappas at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly.

He worked at Jacob E. Decker and Sons and retired when the plant closed in 1983.

Ken was a member of the CIO-Union Food Workers of America and the V.F.W. in Mason City. Having lost his wife to cancer, he devoted much of his time taking other people to the cancer center for treatments.

Family members include a son, Timothy Carlson and special friend, Diane Robbins, of Mason City; daughter, Kathryn "Kae" Evans and her husband, Tony, of Carlsbad, Calif.; brothers, Roger Carlson, of Mason City, Keith Carlson, of Manly, and Donald Carlson, of San Diego, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Agnes; sister, Grace Funk; and brother, Thomas Carlson.
