March 01, 2016Richard Greene, 91, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away, Friday, February 26, at Mercy Hospice. A family celebration of life service will be held later this summer in Clear Lake.
Richard was born on February 12, 1925 in Mason City, Iowa, to Leo H. and Estella Greene. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. In 1949 he married Lillian Baird. Dick held various positions, including salesman at Iowa Packing Co. and Vestal Industries. After retiring he enjoyed boating and Round Dancing. He loved attending his local senior center and playing pool.
Richard is survived by his son and four daughters, Rick (Debbie) Greene, of Altoona, Linda Greene, Waukee, Sue (Tim) Ohrt, Urbandale, Rene (Darin) Reese, West Des Moines, Janet (Brian) Wilson, Johnston, eight grandchildren: Brandon Pizinger, Tim (Kayla) and Jennifer Ohrt, Jamie Reese, Shelby (Tyler) Silver, Sidney Greene, Brian (Tiffany) Andrus, and Mitch Wilson and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Keith, and his wife Lillian, grandsons Curtis Pizinger and Jeffrey Ohrt and special friend, Alsenna Jose.
Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice, Johnston, Iowa.
