MASON CITY — Barbara Mae Hanig Graves, 71, of 432 S. Tennessee Place, Mason City, died Saturday (Aug. 27, 2005) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m.Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Harry Koelker officiating. Interment will be in the Hampton Cemetery, Hampton. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday with a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City.

Barbara was born on Dec. 27, 1933, in Mason City, the daughter of Francis and Leone (Zeine) Tenney. She graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School, Mason City in 1951.

She married Donald Hanig on Sept. 18, 1951, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. They farmed in rural Geneva until 1955, and then moved and farmed in rural Dougherty. Her husband, Donald, died Oct. 18, 1976. She continued to live on the farm until 1979.

She later married Donald Graves and moved to San Pablo, Calif. They moved back to the family farm in 1987. Donald died on Sept. 25, 1988.

Barbara retired in 1989 and moved to Mason City to be with her good friend and companion, John Haller.

She enjoyed spending her winters in Florida for the past thirteen years, playing cards, reading, crocheting, doing puzzles and most of all spending time with her friends and family. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City.

She is survived by her good friend and companion John Haller, Mason City; seven children, Joe Hanig, Dougherty, and his friend Linda Vold, Mason City, Linda (Lloyd) Hamman, Hampton, John (Joan) Hanig, Sheffield, Frank (Janet) Hanig, Cartersville, Laurie (Jerry) Donnenwerth, Sheffield, Ed (Terri) Hanig, Sheffield, and Jim (Coleen) Hanig, Sheffield; twenty four grandchildren; Ross (Jesi) Hanig, Blair Hanig, Melody McGurk, Tracy (Dean) Schaefer, Jenna Krumm, Travis Hamman, Sarah Hamman, Jody Bruce, Jason Hanig, Jeff (Amber) Hanig, Chelsey (Josh) Wiseman, Cassidy Hanig, Chei Hanig, Ryan (Bria) Hanig, Nick (Andrea) Hanig, Michael (Amy) Donnenwerth, Kyle (Nikki) Donnenwerth, Kalem Hanig, Shelby Hanig, Caitlyn Hanig, Cody Hanig, Samantha Hanig, Amber Hanig and Stephanie Hanig; seven great-grandchildren Sidney Schaefer, Elexis Hamman, Brennen Bruce, Dayden Rafferty, Hunter Hanig, Cade Hanig and Kael Hanig; and a brother, Bill Tenney and his friend, Diana Cornelius, Mason City; sister-in-law, Della (Ed) Price, Mason City; and brother-in-law, Carol Severtson, Glenville, Minn.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Dorothy Tenney; her two husbands; infant daughter Donna Hanig; two sisters, Shirley Donahue and Pat Severtson; and two grandsons, Adam Hanig and Gabriel Hanig.
