MASON CITY - With great sorrow, the family of Mary Kepreos Kaufman, age 92, announces her passing, on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 17, at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 1311 2nd Street SW, Mason City, with Rev. Joseph Mirowski officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery, 1224 S. Washington Ave., Mason City.

Visitation will take place from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Friday, February 16, at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church. A Trisagion service will be held at 6:00 PM at the church.

Mary, a lifelong resident of Mason City, was the beloved only child of Constantine and Vasiliki (Constandilieros) Kepreos.

She graduated from Mason City and would later go on to attend North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC). Mary worked at Iowa Hardware Mutual Insurance Co., then married Louis Kaufman in 1948. Mary loved and enjoyed her family very much.

She was a champion golfer at the Mason City Country Club, as well as other area courses, and city golf champion over the years. She cherished her golf, bridge and Mahjong friends.

Mary enjoyed knitting and made beautiful sweaters, afghans, Christmas stockings and much more for her friends and family. She liked reading, travel, games, music, theater and was always ready for a new adventure. She was interested in everything, from world events to all the hometown news.

Every year, even from her wheelchair in her later years, she especially loved picking out toys for the Toys For Tots program, and school supplies for children in need. She was a compassionate and caring person.

At age 58, she began a second career working as a Unit Clerk on 6th floor West at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, where she enjoyed her work and made many good friends. Following 20 years of service, she retired in 2004.

Mary was a lifelong member of the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, and loved dancing at the festivals and singing in the choir. Her favorite services were during Easter.

Mary is survived by 1 son, Lynn (Mary) Kaufman of Mason City; 2 daughters, Constance and Louise Kaufman of Mason City; 3 grandchildren, Sam (Kristen) Kaufman of Austin, Texas, Alexandra and Andrea Kaufman of Minneapolis, Minnesota and 3 great grandchildren, Ethan, Abby and Anna Kate.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Memorials may be directed to the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, or the Community Kitchen of North Iowa, 606 N. Monroe, Mason City, IA.
