Yvonne Stratton Lewerke, 81, of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 1997 at North Iowa Mercy Health Center's East Campus, Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 15 at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with Ivan Rogers officiating. Burial was in the Rockwell Cemetery, Rockwell, Iowa. The family suggests memorials may be made to Hospice of North Iowa.

Yvonne Stratton Lewerke was born Jan. 15, 1916 at McClean, Ill., the daughter of Charles and Dovie (Wise) Stratton.

She spent most of her adult life devoted to the welfare and development of Israel and the Jews, 'God's chosen people. She is now asleep in Jesus awaiting `the hour in which all that are in their graves shall hear his voice and come forth; they that have done good unto the resurrection of life ...'3 John 5:28-29.

Yvonne loved teaching and was employed in the Mason City School District for 10 years. She worked with special needs and mentally challenged children.

Her hobbies included reading, gardening, pulling weeds, and watching birds from her window. She also enjoyed the companionship of her dog, Muffin.

She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Diane Lewerke Kafer and her husband, Bill, of Manly, Iowa, and Ruth Lewerke Newman and her husband, Jay Newman, of Kensett, Iowa; three sons, Curtis Lewerke and his wife, Julie, of Clear Lake, Dennis Lewerke and his wife, Jodie, Clear Lake, and Jonathan Lewerke and his wife, JoEllen, of Mason City; two sisters, Laura and her husband, Don Spitler, Mulberry, Ark., and Ruth and her husband, Paul Luttenegger, of Burlington, Iowa; a brother, Sid and his wife, Ruth Stratton, of Burlington;

18 grandchildren, Chris Kafer, Kevin Lewerke, Scott Lewerke, Todd Lewerke, Jayson Newman, Ben Lewerke, Jonathan Lewerke, Cindy Hamlin, Vickie Hunemiller, Tammy Kallenbach, Karen Wistrom, Karla Parker, Lisa Lewerke, Brenda Jacobs, Aimee Kroeger, Jaymie Newman and Jayna Newman; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Russell Charles Jr., John Curtis and Calvin; and one grandchild, Kristie Ann Lewerke.

Pat Treloar was organist. Special music was provided by Jayna Newman and Aimee Kroeger.

Honorary pallbearers were Cindy Hamlin, Vickie Hunemiller, Tammy Kallenbach, Karen Wistrom, Karla Parker, Lisa Lewerke, Brenda Jacobs, Aimee Kroeger, Jaymie Newman, and Jayna Newman.

Pallbearers were Chris Kafer, Kevin Lewerke, Scott Lewerke, Todd Lewerke, Jayson Newman, Ben Lewerke, and Jonathan Lewerke.
