Darlene G. Reysack, 70, of Thornton, Iowa, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998 at the Sunrise Healthcare Center, Mason City, Iowa.

She was cremated and inurnment will be at the Pleasant View Cemetery, Thornton, Iowa. Memorials may be given to the Darlene G. Reysack Memorial Fund c/o Elizabeth Reysack, PO Box 181, Thornton, Iowa 50479. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.

Darlene was born June 10, 1928, in Thornton, Iowa. She was raised by her mother Lucille E. (Harken) Prilipp and maternal grandfather, George M. Harken.

She graduated from Thornton High School in 1945 with honors. Darlene lived there until her marriage to Theodore R. (Ted) Reysack Dec. 10, 1954. She worked in the Mason City-Thornton area as a telephone operator for a number of years until she lost her voice for over three years. Ted worked as a farm hand in the surrounding area for a time until they moved to Hampton in the late 1950s and lived there over 30 years. She and her daughter, Beth, moved to rural Swaledale. In 1993 Darlene and Beth’s family moved to Thornton. Darlene moved to the nursing home Nov. 20, 1997.

Darlene was baptized, confirmed and married in the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Thornton, Iowa. In her later years she was unable to attend churches due to her ill health. While she was able, she attended various Non Denominational Pentecostal affiliated churches.

Darlene enjoyed her children and extended family, especially her grandson Tony. They were the ones who gave her, her greatest joy in life as well as her abiding faith in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She liked to read, knit, word puzzle books, listen to the radio and watch TV, and talk with her family in person and on the phone.

She is survived by her son, Randy D. Reysack and his wife, Sandra, Thornton, Iowa; one daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Reysack and her husband, Gary Overbeck, Thornton; one grandson, Tony Reysack, Clear Lake; step-grandchildren, Lucinda McDonald and Benjamin McDonald, Thornton; a special friend (like a daughter) Barb Benge; and other special relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandfather, George M. Harkin, and infant son, Timothy Vernon Reysack.
