Margaret Maxine Baker Hoffman, 95, of Mason City, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, at the IOOF Home.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church, 119 South Georgia, with the Rev. Kathleen R. Moore officiating. Interment will be in the Rockwell Cemetery, Rockwell.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and continue at the church on Saturday one hour before services.

Memorials may be directed to charity of choice in memory of Margaret Hoffman. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com.

Margaret was born Jan. 2, 1922, on a farm near Rockford, Iowa. She graduated from Rockford High School in 1939 and Hamilton Business College in 1940.

Margaret taught at Hamilton’s for 2 years where she met her future husband, Frank Hoffman. Frank always said he had to marry the teacher to pass the class.

Margaret then worked for the Navy Bureau of Aeronautics from 1942-45 and corresponded with Frank using shorthand. Frank returned from the war in June 1945 and they were married on July 8, 1945, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. She worked for a bank and lumber yard in Mason City before moving to Iowa City in 1947 where she worked for the university printing service. In 1949, they moved to Sac City where they started their family.

In 1955, they returned to Mason City and in 1963 Margaret went back to work at Hamilton’s until her retirement. Margaret was the first person in Mason City to earn her CPS (Certified Professional Secretary). Margaret was a member of the First United Methodist Church, PEO, and TTT. She and Frank enjoyed rehabilitating rental properties, gardening and traveling extensively visiting their grandchildren. She was an avid reader and a beautiful knitter.

Margaret is survived by her children, David (Kathy) Hoffman of Wichita, Kansas, Frances Hoffman of Mason City, Gary (Carole) Hoffman of Mason City and Mary (Rick) Hurlbut of Marion; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank and 1 sister, Helen.
