Roger L. Klemas, 72, of Mason City, Iowa, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services for Roger will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 North Pennsylvania Avenue, Mason City, with the Rev. Ken Hatland officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Rites at the graveside will be conducted by the Mason City Veteran's Memorial Association. Memorials may be directed towards the Roger L. Klemas Memorial Fund.

Roger L. Klemas was born May 26, 1931 at Story Hospital in Mason City the son of Harley John and Cora Mildred (Conklin) Klemas. He attended the Mason City School System and graduated in 1949 and went on to receive his Associate of Arts Degree from Mason City Junior College in 1951. Roger continued his education and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Iowa in 1953. He then served his country from 1953 ­ 1955 in the Korean Conflict achieving the Rank of Corporal in the United States Army.

Roger L. Klemas was united in marriage to June M. Olson on March 30, 1954 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City.

As a boy Roger delivered newspapers for the Des Moines Register at the age of 10 and for the Globe Gazette at the age of 12. Roger was a mail room employee at the Globe Gazette in 1943. He then worked for the Globe Gazette advertising department from 1953 - 1968 and then Mohawk Advertising from 1968 - 1971 when he retired.

Roger was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he helped with ushering and preparing the Sunday bulletins. He also was a volunteer at the Good Shepherd Health Center visiting the residents for over 13 years. Roger had a deep appreciation and love for nature and the outdoors, he was an avid stamp collector and reader. Roger always enjoyed the Wednesday morning breakfast club with the guys. He also always loved to spend time with his family and friends and dearly cared for his or his families' pets.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, June Marie; three sons, John Lee Klemas, Mason City, Michael Allen Klemas and wife Diane (Hemann) of Mason City, and Dennis Mark Klemas of Mason City; a brother, Ted Klemas and his wife Patricia, of Mason City; several brothers and sisters-in-laws; many nieces and nephews; four aunts and one uncle, and lifetime friend Robert Bales, Clear Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant brother, Clayton; two uncles, three aunts and his grandparents.
