Marian Elaine Hoit, 83, of Mason City, died Thursday, March 30, 2017, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with Pastor Dan Gerrietts officiating.

Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Marian was born March 7, 1934, the daughter of Henry H. and Laura (Odegaard) Haase in Hinckley, MN. She was united in marriage to Ronald David Hoit in 1952 and they divorced after 35 years together. Marian was employed by Metalcraft in Mason City before her girls were born.

Over the years Marian was a member of the God Squad, past secretary of the North Iowa Quilter’s Guild, volunteered her quilts and puppets for Eduplast and sent used stamps to the Sons of Norway for the disabled in Norway. She enjoyed being a pen pal with numerous children and spending her extra time doing crafts.

Marian’s favorite quote for the last few months was “old age isn’t for sissies”.

Those thankful for having shared in Marian’s life include her daughter, Susan Kay (Doug) Virnala of Osage; sister, Marilyn Lina (Richard) Kastler of Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Michael (Regina) Tireman of Olathe, KS, Timothy (Samantha Bergstrom) Tireman of West St. Paul, MN, Carolyn (Bill) Eliason of Mason City, David (Brooke) Tireman of North St. Paul, MN, Daniel (Denise) Virnala of New Haven, IA, Jason Wigant of Waverly; 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Marian was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Ron; daughter, Linda Sue Wigant; granddaughter, Jennifer Jo Lujan; parents, Henry and Laura Haase; two sisters, Thelma Sylvia Herberg and Beatrice Magdaline Herberg Kersten.

We will miss her.
