Gerald "Jerry" Wayne Hesley, 86, of Mason City passed away with quiet dignity on Aug. 11, 2014, at 4:20 a.m. in the Muse-Norris Hospice Center of Mason City.

With his family present, he was taken from us by extended complications from strokes and a recent stomach ailment.

Jerry was the only child of Everett L. Hesley and June Jennings Hesley and was born in Britt on May 2, 1928. His mother passed away a week after Jerry was born.

Jerry was married to Phylis G. Angell who preceded him in death in August 2012. He was also married to Theo M. Campbell who also preceded him in July 1975.

He served as a machinist mate on three warships in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged on May 2, 1949. He was a later graduate of Mason City High School.

After the navy, Jerry worked as welder and general repairman for Northwestern States Portland Cement, and Holnam Cement for 37 years. He was a lifelong resident of Mason City. He enjoyed camping with his family and friends, and was a model railroader since 1949. After his retirement from welding, he owned and operated Eastside Trains on East State Street for over 10 years, a gathering place for rail fans like him. Jerry was an avid photographer and chaser of trains in the mid and western United States.

Jerry had eight children, Dennis and Denese Potter (deceased), LaNaya Angell of Mason City, Michael Hesley of Issaquah, Wash., Marcene Flores (deceased), Michelle Couch of Mason City, Kelley Hesley of Albert Lea, Minn., and Shirlee McAndrews of El Cahon, Calif. He is also survived by his stepchildren William King, of Mason City, Teresa Harms of Hampton, Tom King of Dows, Nancy Rodriguez of Austin, Texas, and Joseph King of North Carolina. Jerry has numerous grand and great-grandchildren who will also dearly miss him.

Jerry will be interred with his family during a graveside service on Aug. 14 at 11 a.m. at Memorial Cemetery west of Mason City. Afterward, please join us to celebrate Jerry's life with his family and friends at the VFW on South Monroe Avenue at 1:30 p.m.
