Martha M. Helland, 84, of Mason City, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at the IOOF Home.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with Pastor Joel Dahlen of St. James Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the North Iowa Humane Society. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com

Martha was born June 10, 1929, in Aurial, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Hazel (Peterson) Husman. She married Robert L. Helland Oct. 8, 1955, in Tijuana, Mexico. Martha worked as a waitress in the restaurant business her entire life. A few of her interests included any outdoor activity, especially mowing her yard, and Saturday night dances at the VFW. She loved her two cats, Ashey and Angel, and her best friend, Charlotte.

Martha is survived by three daughters, Peggie (Richard) Bader of Hiawatha, Patricia “Kay” Lawson-Best of Rowlett, Texas, and Susan Duncan of Des Moines; son, Dale Buffington of Mason City; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren; three sisters, Lily Nelson of Sibley, Jo (Robert) Greinke of Alta and Frieda (Wayne) Congdon of Fort Adkins, Wis.; one brother, Clifford Husman of Sioux City.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert, one granddaughter, one great- granddaughter and four sisters.
