Elsie L. Juhl, 86, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, May 31, 1995, at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 3, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jonathan Swenson officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. The family suggests memorials to the Fertile Senior Citizens Center.

Elsie was born July 30, 1908, in rural Clear Lake, the daughter of Effie Bamlet and Charles Nathan Humphrey. On Jan. 2, 1929 she married Albert Juhl. The couple farmed in the Fertile and Clear Lake area until Albert's death in 1964. She moved to her Main Avenue address and resided there until ill health prompted her move to Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake on June 2, 1994.

She was active in her church and assisted in folding "The Shepherd" bulletin for many years. She also worked with ladies from the church to make quilts and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church's Young at Hearts group.

Elsie was very instrumental in helping the organization of the Clear Lake Senior Citizens Center and worked toward obtaining the group's present building.

She was honored as Senior Citizen Volunteer of the Year in Cerro Gordo County. Her favorite pastime was crocheting, including crocheting pillows and potholders for friends. She also loved to cook and share her cooking with others. Elsie was especially known for her cinnamon rolls. Previously she was a cook at Ritter Nursing and P.M. Park.

Elsie was also a member of AmVet's Auxiliary #135, Clear Lake.

She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Haugen and her husband, Ronald, Clear Lake; a son, Delbert Juhl and his wife, Viola, Clear Lake; a sister, Murle Tice of Omaha, Neb.; a brother, Floyd Humphrey of Charles City, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Lois Humphrey, Clear Lake, and Myrtle Humphrey, Duluth, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Randall Lemke, Craig Lemke, Douglas Schroeder, Kimberly Schroeder, Vickie Boehnke, Jeffrey Schroeder, Arlene Juhl and Candy Tibbits; 16 great-grandchildren, Molly Lemke, Bonny Lemke, Penny Lemke, Andy Lemke, Katie Lemke, Jarod Lemke, Cory Lemke, Trisha Schroeder, Stacy Schroeder, Jessica Boehnke, Robert Bohn, Jason Tibbits and Logon Tibbits.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; an infant daughter; two brothers, Lloyd Humphrey and Lynn Humphrey; two sisters, Alice Shaner and Leona Zobel; a son-in-law, Kenneth Lemke; and one infant grandchild.
