Jeanne was born Aug. 17, 1921, the daughter of Theron and Ethel (Scroggs) Hilton in Anamosa, IA. Jeanne moved to Mason City with her family at age of 7. She attended and graduated from Mason City Community Schools. Jeanne continued her education graduating from Community College in 1941.

On Feb. 7, 1942, Jeanne was united in marriage to Kenneth Kalahar in Princeton, MO. To this union they were blessed with four children, Kenneth, Suzan, Jodie and Jon. Jeanne and Kenneth moved around during World War II as Kenneth was a fighter pilot and an instructor. Following Kenneth’s discharge from the service the couple resided in Ames while Kenneth attended ISU. Upon completion of college they moved back to Mason City. Jeanne was a wife, mother and homemaker. They remained in Mason City until they moved to Dubuque, IA, in 1972 where they remained until 2002 when the couple returned to Mason City.

Jeanne was a dedicated, hard-working asset to her community. She loved doing volunteer work for the church, Girl Scouts, PTA and PTO. She was a huge supporter of the clubs Kenneth was involved in as well. She volunteered at Finley Hospital in Dubuque for 20 years with the Sunshine Circle. She was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution, Eastern Star, PEO, Study Club and Women's Auxiliary. They enjoyed traveling and spending time at their family cabin in Northern Minnesota. The couple enjoyed hosting large family get togethers and sharing their cabin with all. Jeanne loved the family tradition on the holidays, when all her family would come home to celebrate. She cherished her family and the time she was able to share with them.
