Roger was born on April 14, 1935, in Rockwell, IA, to Frank and Myrna (Wepking) Pope. He graduated from Hanlontown High School.

Roger met the love of his life, Myrna Ascher, at a Rural Young People’s dance. The couple was united in marriage on Nov. 21, 1959, at the United Church of Christ in rural Nashua, IA. To their union, three children were born. Roger farmed north of Mason City for 45 years. He enjoyed farming and taking the grandchildren on tractor rides.

Roger’s pride and joy was a 1957 International Harvester Golden Jubilee pickup. He was very fond of vintage automobiles and spent a lot of time restoring them for fun and to be driven in parades. He was a member of Plymouth Owner’s Club, Antique Automobile Club of America and a Charter Member of North Iowa Vintage Auto Club. He liked to involve his grandchildren, which were also his pride and joy, in his hobby. Roger also fixed up a mini bike and go-cart for the grandchildren to ride. He was an avid collector of many things including antique cars, gas pumps, barbed wire, and toy airplanes.

Roger will be remembered for his uplifting spirit and the way he enjoyed carrying on conversation with family, friends, and strangers.
