Howard R. Crane, 88, of Mason City, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at the Iowa Veteran’s Home, Marshalltown.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, in the Wayside Chapel of First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave., Mason City, with Deacon Renee Smithback officiating.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, where full military honors will be conducted by the Mason City Veteran’s Association.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, and one hour prior to services in the Wayside Chapel, Tuesday.

Howard R. Crane was born Oct. 9, 1925, at Hampton, a son of Howard and Lottie (Lee) Crane Sr.

He attended Mason City schools.

Howard was drafted and served in the US Navy aboard the U.S.S. Jarvis, a Fletcher Class destroyer, in the North Pacific Fleet.

Following his discharge from the Navy, Howard returned to Mason City, where he began a 50-year career with Jacob E. Decker & Sons and Armour Food Co.

An avid bowler, Howard bowled in several leagues over the years. He especially enjoyed participating in activities at the Senior Citizens Center.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher and also a member of VFW Post #733, Mason City.

Howard is survived by two brothers, Roger (Darlene) Crane, Papillion, Neb.; Ron (Nancy) Crane, Iowa City; many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert, in infancy.
