Elaine R. Cannella, 83, of Mason City, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Tom Dettmer officiating.

Interment will be held in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Elaine Cannella memorial fund in care of the family. Elaine was born on Feb. 24, 1930, in Mason City, the daughter of William and Edith (Liljenberg) Soursos. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1948, and continued her education at the Felt & Tarrant Comptometer School in Des Moines. Elaine was united in marriage to Anthony “Tony” Cannella on Sept. 20, 1952, in Mason City, and to this union were three children: Candis, Dawn, and Michael. Over the years, Elaine worked for Standard Oil (3½ years), Medical Arts (12 years) and UNISYS where she was an assembler (7 years) until her retirement in 1991.

After retirement, Elaine kept very busy with volunteer work for Silver Advantage, R.S.V.P., Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, MML Auxiliary Board, Salvation Army, North Iowa Soccer Club and the Grant Village Association where she served as Treasurer. She found enjoyment in helping others. Elaine “Gramma C” also enjoyed spending time with her family, crafts, artwork, word finds, and playing with the family dog: Maxwell. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in Altar Guild and Lydia Circle.

Elaine is survived by two daughters: Candis Dietrich and husband Kurt of Corvallis, Ore., and Dawn Lind of Mason City; special daughter-in-law: Kristin Cannella of Mason City; three grandsons: Ben Boyle and wife Megan of Lake Stevens, Wash., Ryan Boyle and wife Amber of Bend, Ore., and Andrew Roth and fiancée Kelli Ciavarelli of Mason City; five granddaughters: Heather Meizis and husband Jeremiah of Colorado Springs, Colo., Amanda Hill and husband Kevin of Mason City, Leah Cannella of Bloomington, Minn., Linae and Paige Cannella – both of Mason City; and one sister: Marie Thomas of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Tony Cannella; her son: Michael Cannella; son-in-law: Richard Lind; special aunt: Mabel Truss; and brother-in-law: Clair Thomas.
