Mary Jeanette Chute passed away Wednesday, Oct. 11 [2017], in Cedar Rapids.

She was born to Herbert Franklin and Genevieve Marie (Zweck) Carlson on July 5, 1928, in Dougherty. On June 3, 1947, she married Robert J. 'Pete' Chute, who preceded her in death in Naples, Fla. She had a passion for golf and was a member of The Glades Country Club, Naples and Indian Creek Country Club, Marion. More than anything, she loved time spent with her family. Her husband of 68 years affectionately called her 'Squirt' because of her diminutive stature, but she lived a spunky life.

Mary is survived by daughters, Marcia (Jim) Hanson, Marshalltown, Mindy (Rick) Jost, Des Moines and Michelle (Steve) Thornburg, Bettendorf; sons, Michael (Sara), Riverview, Fla., Mark (Sheryl), Chelsea, and Martin (Awilda) and Matthew (Tracie), both of Marion; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, brother Donald, and sister Dorothy Plath.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Roger and Joe, daughter Mary Ann, son Merle Franklin, and grandson Ryan Michael.

A memorial service for Mary and Pete will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Marion. The family will greet guests at 9:30 am. at the church. Following a a private burial, they family will return to the church to host lunch. Donations can go to the American Cancer Society.
