John R. Fitzgerald, 46, Center township farmer, died suddenly May 14 while he was on his way to a doctor's office in Tipton. Death was due to a
rupture of the main artery.

The son of Margaret and Raymond Fitzgerald, he was born June 8, 1920 at Iowa City. He was graduated from the West Liberty school and served in the air force from Sept. 11, 1942, when he was inducted into service until Sept. 2, 1945. He was a cryptographic technician and served overseas from March 22, 1943 until Aug. 10, 1945 in the Middle-East theaters of operations.

He was married to Mildred Kennedy Sept. 8, 1945.

He farmed in the West Liberty area until he moved to a farm 3 1/2 miles southeast of Tipton.

Mr. Fitzgerald was a member of the Methodist church, the Knights of Pythias and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife and his mother, Mrs. Margaret Fitzgerald, West Liberty.
