Mrs. Gerald Motz, 20, was instantly killed and her husband seriously injured in a one-car accident 1 1/2 miles west of Sunbury about 1:45 a.m. May 7. The accident took place on the Sunbury blacktop, about a mile east of the Bennett corner.

Mrs. Motz was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Her husband is in University hospitals, Iowa City.

Officers at the scene said that Motz, who was driving west, on his way to his home near Bennett, went off the road about 300 feet from where the car was found. It hit a culvert, and plunged end-over-end, coming to rest on its side at the north of a county road intersection.

Both of the Motz's were thrown from the car. Her body was found on the road, close to the car. He was found in the ditch, about 10 feet from the car.

*** Motz were held May 9 at Peace United Church of Christ, Bennett, with the Rev. Robert Ahrendt officiating. Burial was in Inland cemetery, Benentt.

Pallbearers were Marlin Hillyer, James Conrad, Ronald Helmold, Sylvan Wenndt, Gary Jorgensen and Jerry Harmel. Mrs. Virgil Barclay and Mrs. Jerry Harmel were in charge of flowers. Mrs. Ernest Riedesel Jr. was organist.

The daughter of Maynard and Pearl (Heick) Hubler, she was born at West Branch May 19, 1946 and was educated in the schools of West Branch and Bennett.

She was married to Gerald Dean Motz at Clarence Oct. 9, 1965. They made they home in Bennett. At the time of her death she was employed as a waitress at the Walcott truck stop restaurant.

She is survived by her husband, a daughter, Michelle; her parents, Mrs. Pearl Hubler, Bennett and Maynard Hubler, Oxford; 6 sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Arlene) Ford, Rochester; Mrs. Robert (Martha) Meader, Cedar Rapids; and Marjorie, Marilyn and Colleen, at home, and Ronald, a brother, also at home.
