Last rites for Herbert Upton Ford, 54, were held Sept. 27 at the Sheets and Son funeral home with the Rev. Eugene Miller officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery, with full military rites by the Tipton American Legion post.

Pallbearers were Dwight Dean, Claire Foote, George Thordsen, Robert Reeve, Leonard Port and Jack Handley. Laura Geller was organist. Dean Handley was in charge of flowers.

Mr. Ford died Sept. 23 at Veterans hospital, Iowa City, after a lingering illness.

The son of Upton and Bertha Blair Ford, he was born Feb. 17, 1911, in Cedar county near Bennett. He was educated in the Tipton Community school.

A mechanic, he lived in the Tipton area nearly all of his life and most recently worked for the Berry Motor company. He was a member of the Methodist church, the V.F.W., the American Legion and was a former member of the Tipton Fire department.

A veteran of World War II, he served from 1942 to 1945 and took part in the Rhineland-Central Europe campaign. He was discharged as a private first class.

He was married to Hollyce Roberts at Ames, Oct. 11,1954.

He is survived by his wife, 2 nephews, a niece, several uncles and cousins.
