Last rites for Mrs. Cynthia Helena Melson, 86, were held Sept. 22 at the Sheets and Son funeral home with the Rev. E. H. Lauer in charge. Pallbearers were Robert McClellan, Merl Carroll, Alvin Christensen, Wayne Miller, L. V. Chapman and Franklin Gault. Mrs. Irma Crawford was organist.

Mr. and Mrs. Prentice York and Mr. and Mrs. Max Werling were in charge of flowers. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Mrs. Melson died early Sept. 20 at a West Branch nursing home following a short illness.

The daughter of Harlow and Anna Kensinger Tuttle, she was born Nov. 9, 1878 near Tipton and attended the Cedar county rural schools. She was married to Samuel Elmer Melson at Estherville Jan. 15, 1896.

She spent most of her life in the Tipton community, except for a short time in the Oak Park, Ill., and Muscatine. She was a former member of the Evangelical and Reformed church of Tipton.

She is survived by a foster daughter, Mrs. Albert Carroll, Galesburg, Ill.; 2 brothers, Samuel and William Tuttle, Fairfield; a sister, Mrs. Emma Knotte, Jeffers, Minn.; a foster grandson and a foster great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother and a foster daughter, Agnes Tuttle.

The Melsons took the Tuttle girls into their home, as their children, after the death of their mother in 1918.
