9 September 1965 - The Tipton Conservative

Last rites for Douglas Meaker, 78, were held Sept. 11 at the Sheets and Son Funeral home with the Rev. Eugene Miller in charge. Burial was in Shawver cemetery at Cedar Bluff.

Mr. Meaker died at University hospitals, Iowa City, Sept. 8.

Pallbearers were Wilmar Williams, Harold Morden, Harlan Garlick, Francis Mahoney, Walter Fankhauser and Frank Loomis. Mrs. Irma Crawford was vocalist and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wentzel and Mr. and Mrs. George Thordsen were in charge of flowers.

The son of William G. and Elizabeth Parnell Meaker, he was born Oct. 29, 1886, at Mokena, Ill., and was educated in the rural Peoria, Ill., county schools. He was married to Ruth Frederick in Cedar Rapids July 6, 1929.

A resident of Tipton for 45 years, he was a laborer.

He is survived by his wife, 4 sons, Albert, Solon; Robert, Los Angeles, Calif.; William, Alexandria, Va.; and Chalmer, Vinton; 3 brothers, William, Lafayette, Ill., and George and Ray, Wyoming; a sister, Mrs. Katherine Gould, Mokena, Ill; a step-son, Arthur Callahan, Clinton; 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
