Funeral services for Charles Werling Shaffer, 80, a native of Tipton, were held at the Sheets & Dahn funeral home in Tipton Saturday. The Rev. Linwood Fredericksen was in charge. Burial was in the Masonic cemetery.

Mr. Shaffer died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edwin Dittmer, in Davenport Sept. 4 after an illness of two months.

Mr. Shaffer was born in Tipton Dec. 10, 1877, the son of Albert and Wilhemina Shaffer. He was educated in the Tipton school and made his home in Tipton until 32 years ago when he moved to Davenport where he was employed by the Roederer Transfer for 25 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Shaffer celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Dec. 8, 1948, having been married in Rock Island, Ill., Dec. 8, 1989.

He is survived by his wife, four daughters, Mrs. Austa Boyton, Bengough, Saskatchewan, Canada; Mrs. Minnie France, Tipton; Mrs. B. L. Jackson and Mrs. Edwin Dittmer, both of Davenport; a grandson, Leslie Jackson, and two sisters, Mrs. Cora Phillips, Tipton, and Mrs. Frances Siepmann, Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, four brothers, and six sisters.
