Funeral services for Max Benjamin Burgess, 59, a lifetime resident of Cedar county, where held Sept. 20 in the Sheets and Dahn funeral home with the Rev. Donald Campbell officiating. Burial was in the Stanwood cemetery with the Tipton American Legion post providing military services.

Burgess died at Mercy hospital in Iowa City Sept. 17.

The son of Ben and Della Hart Burgess, he was born on a farm near Stanwood March 21, 1899.

He was united in marriage to Edith Potter on June 28, 1919. One daughter, Beverly was born to this union.

He was educated and reared in the Stanwood community. Most of his life was spent farming in Cedar county with the last 20 years on his farm west of Tipton.

A veteran of World War I, he was a charter member of the American Legion Post at Tipton.

He is survived by his wife, Edith; one daughter, Mrs. Harold Stager, Iowa City; three sisters, Lucile, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Ruth Shoemaker, Mendota, Ill. and Mrs. Bessie Lehrman, Hunting Park, Calif.; two brothers, Homer and Lucien, Clarence, and a number of nieces and nephews.

His father, mother and one sister, Florence, preceded him in death.
