Jane Morris was born in Columbiana county, Ohio, on April 25, 1825, and died December 8, 1903, of paralysis and heart trouble, aged 78 years, 7 months and 13 days. She came to Iowa in December, 1861, was married to John W. Steele, March 13, 1862, in the same house in which they lived for 38 years. To this union no children were born, but they raised and cared for seven children. She was kind to the poor and needy and always ready to lend a hand to the sick and afflicted. She leaves to mourn her departure, an aged husband, two sisters and many friends. She loved to read her Bible, having read it through several times, doing so twice the present year. Many times she expressed her readiness and willingness to go wherever she should hear the summons, "Child, come home." She was raised a Friend and afterward united with the Church of God. Funeral services were held from the Friends' church Thursday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Stribling, assisted by Rev. Davis, of the M.E. church.
