23 February 1905 - West Branch Times

Died, at his home near Walker, Iowa, January 29, 1905, Edwin Brown, aged nearly 53 years.

Mr. Brown was born in Somersetshire, England. He came, when a boy, to America and settled with his parents in Wisconsin. Later he moved to Iowa and when the Civil war broke out enlisted with the 41st Iowa Volunteers. He was afterwards transferred to the 7th Iowa Cavalry, and remained with them till his enlistment expired. In Jan., 1865, he was married to Miss Elizabeth King. They began housekeeping near West Branch, where they lived till 1879, when the family went to Linn county to reside.

During his residence in this community Mr. Brown made many friends who will long remember the man whose cheerful, happy disposition and many sterling qualities won for him friends wherever he went. Besides these there are left to mourn his death his faithful wife and eight children. But those left behind are not without hope, and now can look forward to the time when the happy home circle, which death has for the first time entered, will be again complete in the home where sorrow never comes.

Funeral services were held at Walker Jan. 31, conducted by the pastor of the M.E. church, of which Mr. Brown was a member.
