Rees Branson, a long time resident of this community, died at his home in West Branch this morning at 4:00 o'clock, after a week's illness. Mr. Branson was a highly respected citizen of this community and was about seventy years of age at the time of his death. He had lived most of his life in West Branch and at Springdale.

Rees Branson was born in Ohio on August 20, 1842. He was married to Sarah J. Schooley, October 25, 1866. They walked life's journey together more than fifty years, having celebrated their golden wedding October 25, 1916.

The family consists of three sons, Lewis J., of Toledo; Benjamin S., of West Liberty and William R. of Springdale, all of whom, with the wife, remain to bear the first break in the family circle and sustain each other in their loss.

He was a man of quiet, unassuming nature, but all knew his kindly and upright life. Having a strong affection for the members of his family he is greatly missed by those nearest to him.

He passed away, in peace and trust, in the early morning of May 3, 1917.

The funeral service was in the Friends church on Saturday afternoon, conducted by the pastor of the church, assisted by the pastor of the Friends church at Springdale. The interment was in West Branch cemetery.

Those from out of town in attendance at the funeral were--Mr. and Mrs. I. Schooley of Iowa City, Mrs. D. McCaw and daughter of West Liberty, J. C. Schooley of New Sharon, Mrs. Mary Cross of South Dakota, Mrs. Eva Wilkins, Mr. and Mrs. E. Fogg, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Ellyson, Allen Hemingway and mother and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Miller of West Liberty and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mather of Tipton.
