J. Addison Bye was born in Morgan county, Ohio, eighty years ago. He joined the United States army in 1867 and after three years in the west, defending the Indians, returned to Iowa which was then his home.

Mr. Bye was for years a resident of this community, his wife being Asenath Raley, daughter of David and Ellen Raley of near Springdale. They moved to Cedar Rapids some years ago and resided there until about six years ago when failing health induced them to take up their residence at the Soldiers Home at Marshalltown.

His death occurred there Friday morning, after a brief illness. Funeral services were conducted from the Turner Chapel in Cedar Rapids Monday, Rev. G. J. Chalice officiating. Interment was in Linwood cemetery.

Mr. Bye is survived by his wife, who is a helpless invalid at the Soldiers Home; one son, H. H. Bye, and one brother, W. S. Bye of Cedar Rapids, and one sister, Mrs. Lida Elliott, of West Branch.
