Mrs. Elizabeth Tuthill was born in Ohio April 17, 1825, and died April 29, 1905, aged 80 years and 12 days. She was married to John S. Tuthill Nov. 12, 1843. Most of her life was spent in Tipton, but following the death of her husband she moved to Iowa City in 1886 to give her son the advantages of the university. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at her late residence in Iowa City, conducted by Rev. Leamer, of the Lutheran church. Among the friends from out of town who attended, were W. R. Boyd, of Cedar Rapids, and C. E. Hunn of Des Moines, There were many beautiful floral tributes from friends who had known and loved her in life. The interment was in the Masonic cemetery at Tipton, Tuesday morning. The body was accompanied here by Rev. A. B. Leamer, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Tuthill and daughter Jessie, Mrs. Wm. Elliott, Mrs. Ella Morse, Mr. J. G. Hill. The funeral party was met at the Rock Island depot by many of the old Tipton friends and a short service was conducted by Rev. Leamer. The pall bearers were S. M. Murray, W. J. Moore, C. J. Geller and Sherman Yates. Mrs. Tuthill is survived by a son, J. S. Tuthill of Waterloo, a sister, Mrs. Ellen McClure of Tipton, a brother, John Lett of Benedict, Neb., F. C. Hill, a grandson of Chicago, and a number of nieces in New York. She was a good woman and will be sincerely mourned by those who knew and loved her.
