J. Walter Townsend was born in West Branch, Ia., Jan. 10, 1865. He graduated from the high school of West Branch in 1883. He completed the course of study in Penn College Oskaloosa, Iowa, June 1888 and graduated from the college of Physicians and Surgeons, at Chicago, April 1894. He was converted in early life and lived an earnest true Christian ever afterward. He has been a member of the Friends church all his life. It was his aim to show the Christian life to those about him and to lead others to the Master he so much loved. He was married Oct. 30, 1894 to Laura P. Thomas and the five and a half years of their married life were those of great happiness. Two little ones have brought joy to their home, one a little boy who died at the age of 11 months. He departed this life at Hubbard, Iowa, March 17, at the age of 35 years, 2 months and 7 days. The remains were brought here for interment and the services took place at the Presbyterian church Wednesday afternoon. To the bereaved wife and child is extended the sympathy of the entire community. --Malcom Leader.
