26 May 1927 - West Branch Times

Mary Margaret Thistlethwaite was born at Carr Head near Skipton, Yorkshire, England, Sept. 26, 1838, and died at her home in Ida Grove, Iowa, May 17, 1927, in her 89th year.

She grew to womanhood in England and came to West Branch, Iowa, in June, 1868, there to become the wife of her childhood friend, Edward Edmundson, July 2, 1868. They were married according to Friends ceremony at the home of William Townsend. To this union five children were born, two sons and three daughters. The three youngest childred died in early life.

This worthy couple were among the pioneers of western Cedar county, and were always ready and eager to help those in need. Reared in the Quaker faith, they proved themselves real friends to those about them, and by their lives pointed to the Master and Friend of all.

In 1892 they moved to Ida Grove, Iowa, and lived on the farm four miles southwest of town until 1909, when they moved to Des Moines. Here occurred the death of her husband, Edward Edmundson, Feb. 25, 1909. Ten years later, with her daughter, she returned to Ida Grove, which has been their home since that time.

There are left to miss her, the two daughters, Elizabeth Alice, wife of Gavin Crosbie, and Sophia Jane Edmundson, both of Ida Grove, one sister, Jane Dyhr, of West Branch, and four grandchildren: Florence Crosbie Tjossem, of Paullina, Iowa; Edward A. Crosbie, Jessie Crosbie and Sydney A. Crosbie of Ida Grove, and five greatgrand children.

A long life of faithful service for others was followed by years of sickness and suffering, borne with unselfish resignation.

She was laid to rest in the West Branch cemetery beside her husband and the little ones who preceded her.
