28 January 1926 - West Branch Times

The death of Mrs. Lydia Enlow occurred at her home on Fifth street at about 3 o'clock yesterday morning.

A short time ago Mrs. Enlow fell and she never recovered from the injuries and shock of the accident. In another month she would have been ninety years old. Although her sight had failed and she was handicapped by other infirmities of age yet she was never long idle, and many pieces of exquisite needle work were her products in the last few years.

She lived a long, useful and serene life.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the home.

4 February 1926 - West Branch Times

Lydia Gruwell, daughter of William and Anna Wren Gruwell, was born near Marlboro, Stark county, Ohio, Feb. 28, 1836. She came to Iowa with her parents in the spring of 1853, and underwent the privations of early pioneer life. On June 27, 1867, she was united in marriage to Thomas Enlow, who preceded her in death May 20, 1899. She is survived by two daughters and two sons, Julia and Mrs. Anna Leech of West Branch, Wm. G. of West Liberty and John C. of Des Moines, and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. I. T. Enlow, of Des Moines, twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was a birthright member of the Friends church, where for many years she was an elder, and a quiet and faithful attender, until the infirmaties of age made her a shut-in. She never lost her interest in her friends and community, adapting herself remarkably to all the changes, and was as a sheaf of wheat fully ripe for harvest. On the morning of Jan. 13 she fell, injuring herself, from which, at her advanced age, she was unable to rally, and early in the morning of Jan. 27, she passed to her home beautiful at the age of 89 years and 11 months.

Funeral services were held from the home at 1:30 on Friday, Jan. 29, in charge of her pastor and former pastor, Rev. C. E. Roberts and W. H. Wilson. Interment was made in the family lot in the West Branch cemetery.
