27 May 1926 - West Branch Times

Mrs. Laura Regina Jensen, born Hansen, was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, Feb. 3, 1864. Brought up in the Christian religion, baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

In Oct. 1884, when she was 20 years of age, she departed from her native country and came to Story City, Iowa. After a stay with friends she went to Des Moines, doing housework for about a year.

In 1885 she was joined in marriage to Lars Jensen, in Nevada, Iowa. In 1887 they moved from there to West Branch, Iowa. Ten years later, in 1897 they moved to Arcola, Texas, bought land and built a house and other necessary shelters. But after two years of crop failure they were forced to leave, and returned to West Branch in 1899. This community has been their home ever since. Laura was very devoted to her home and her family and her willing hands were gladly extended to friends in need.

In her married life she gave birth to ten children, seven sons and three daughters: Mrs. Carrie Hansen, Mrs. Lillie Christensen, George, Edward and Viola of West Branch, and Irving, Alfred, Fred, Carl and Theodor of Pasadena, Calif.

Laura had a slight paralytic stroke three years ago and has been in failing health ever since. May 14, last, she was taken very ill and rallied for a day, then sank into semi-consciousness from which she slept till the hour of her departure, Friday evening, May 21, at 7:25. To mourn her loss she leaves her husband, Lars Jensen, 10 children, 9 grandchildren and many friends and also a sister in Denmark.

Interment was made in the West Branch cemetery May 23, last, services conducted by Rev. H. P. Jensen.
