Last rites for Elmer Ward Ernst, 85, a resident of Tipton for 17 years, were held May 1 at the Sheets and Son funeral home with the Rev. Eugene Miller officiating. Burial was in the Massillon cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dewey Petersen, John and Francis Lang, Robert Beniseck, Harold Hass and Stanley Shima. Mrs. Irma Crawford was organist.

Mr. Ernst died at Mercy hospital, Iowa City April 27 following a lingering illness.

The son of Clayton and Adelaid Miller Ernst, he was born near Tipton Feb. 18, 1892 and was educated in the rural schools of Cedar county. He was married to Della Van Sickle at Oxford Junction Oct. 14, 1903.

He farmed in the Cedar county area for many years.

He is survived by a son, William E., Clinton, a daughter, Mrs. Marian Jones, Tipton, 2 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, 2 sisters and a brother.
