The neighborhood was saddened to hear of the death of Mrs. Eva Barnhart which occurred at her home last Thursday after an illness of five weeks. Her death comes as a great shock to her relatives and many friends. Mrs. Barnhart was formerly Miss Eva Phelps, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Al Phelps. She has spent her entire life in this community and she leaves numberless friends who will mourn the loss of a good friend and neighbor. Besides her bereaved husband she leaves two young sons, her father and mother and one sister, Miss Lura Phelps, and many relatives. The funeral services which were held in the M.E. church on Sunday afternoon were largely attended, the services being conducted by Rev. W. G. Rowley from Vinton and Rev. W. C. Perdew, the local pastor. The remains were taken to West Branch for burial. The entire community will extend sympathy to those who are left to mourn.

Mrs. Eva Phelps Barnhart was born at Springdale, Iowa, June 3, 1883. Her father was Mr. Albert Phelps and her mother Mrs. Nettie Kennedy Phelps. She attended the grammar schools of Springdale and graduated from the High school in 1904. Following her graduation she taught school in the vicinity of Springdale for six years.

On April 5, 1910, she was united in marriage with Mr. J. C. Barnhart. To this union were born two children Ivan, born Juy 31, 1913, and Harold, born June 12, 1922. After a painful illness of five weeks duration, she passed away at her home on March 13, 1924.

Religion found a place in her life, as she professed conversion at the age of thirteen, though she never united with the church. She was interested in Christian work. She was a home lover, and had many plans in mind for both the farm and her home.

She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, her two sons, her only sister, Miss Lura Phelps, her parents, and many friends.

Funeral services were held in the Springdale M.E. church, Sunday afternoon, conucted by Rev. W. G. Rowley of Vinton, assisted by Rev. W. C. Perdew. Interment in the West Branch cemetery.
