19 December 1912 - West Branch Times

Vernon J. BeVier, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank BeVier, was born in Griswold, Cass county, Iowa, Sept. 12, 1888, and was called to rest in Santa Rosa, Sonoma county, California, Dec. 7, 1912.

He spent his infancy in Iowa and Missouri, and from there moved with his parents to Chickasha, Indian Territory, where he resided until 11 years of age, when they removed to West Branch, Cedar county, Iowa, where he resided for 12 years.

On the 26th of September the family left Iowa for Santa Rosa, Calif., arriving there Sept. 30, 1912. The first month of his residence there appealed to him, but gradually he became homesick, and on Nov. 17, he was taken with a severe cold, which developed into the grippe, from which he was confined to his bed for a week, then he was able to go about town and see his many friends. On the 25th of November he suffered a relapse, and was again taken to his bed, which he never left.

He passed from this earth to a better world, Saturday, Dec. 7, 1912, aged 24 years, 2 months, 26 days.

The funeral was held from the house on Sunday at 3:00 o'clock, Rev. Brown of the North M.E. church, conducting the services.

All that a loving mother, father, brother and friends could do, was done, but to no avail. The remains were laid to rest on Sunday, Dec. 8, 1912, in the I.O.O.F. cemetery of Santa Rosa, California.
