23 April 1891 - West Branch Times

DIED--On April 13th, 1891, Lyda, wife of James Heacock, in her twenty-third year.

I find when writing of her, the dear friend we have loved and lost, my pen is inadequate to the tribute my heart would pay. I would that the privilege of knowing her had been yours, for to know her was to love her. She came amongst us six short months ago, a stranger, and one week before her death she left West Branch a favorite with all her friends, and when the word came that Lyda is gone it sent a shock to every heart and we felt like putting our hands on our mouth for fear of rebelling against His most righteous decree.

There was so much that was beautiful and consoling in her last hours that it seems selfish to wish her back. She is with the Savior she loved. She folds again to her breast the little one whose loss she had not time to realize on earth. That fair, young being, surrounded by all that makes life happy, father, mother, brothers, sisters and a husband who idolized her. Her heart was full of love and sympathy to all.

We have reason to see, already, some good effects, for from the contemplation of her life and death the young have received a warning, the thoughtless a check. JENNIE
