Eliza Zimmerll was born in Zollingen, Switzerland, Feb. 22, 1825, and died at her home near West Branch, Oct. 20, 1911, aged 86 years, 7 months and 28 days.

In the spring of 1852 she came to America, locating in Madison, N. J., where she was married Feb. 24, 1853, to John Christian Lehman. To this union two daughters were born, Joannah, who died Nov. 24, 1872, and Mrs. W. H. Brown, who cared for her mother during the days of her old age. Four grand-children also survive her, Mrs. Jessie Hadley of Wilcox, Sask. Canada, Harold, Blanche and Glenn Brown.

She came with her husband and family to Iowa in 1860 and settled on the farm two miles south of West Branch, which continued to be her home till the day of her death.

In early life she became a member of the Lutheran church, in the home of her childhood, to which faith she remained loyal through life. She was a kind and affectionate mother, a friend to everybody, and she has been gathering in as a sheaf of ripened grain after a long and useful life.

The funeral services were held at the home at 10:30 Sunday morning. Interment at cemetery east of Downey.
