26 October 1911 - West Branch Times

Alfred Clayton Elliott, the seventh and youngest son of Aaron and Sarah Elliott, was born in Cherry Flat, Penn., Jan. 27, 1857. He came with his parents to Iowa in boyhood, living for a time at Atalissa and later at West Branch, where he was for several years a student, then a teacher in the high school.

He was married March 11, 1879, to Isabelle Cole, who with three brothers, survives him. Three of his brothers, Simon, Julius and Luell, have gone before. The surviving brothers are, A. L. of New York, L. E. of California and E. M. of Garnett, Kansas. A. L. and E. M. being present at his funeral.

He united with the M.E. church in early manhood and until the hindering hand of disease came upon him was a willing worker in the church and Sunday school. For years he had been in poor health, bearing uncomplainingly all trials and with the utmost patience. A change of climate seemed to benefit, but hope proved delusive, and the summons came Oct. 18, 1911, at his home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Ever of a kindly, generous nature, he made many friends and will live in the hearts of those who loved him.

The remains were brought to West Branch from Oklahoma City, Saturday morning. Services, conducted by Rev. Wm. Mitchell of the M.E. church, were held at the home of Mrs. Rachel Cole, north of town, at 1:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Interment at Oasis.
